Utilities

Since the turn-of-the-century, McMinnville has maintained local control of vital infrastructure elements.

This philosophy has kept costs low and efficiency and service high.

Water and Power

McMinnville Water and Light was founded in 1889 and continues today to provide low cost, reliable water and power services.

McMinnville has the lowest electricity rates in Oregon & lowest water rates in our region.  A full service comparison shows McMinnville at $5.6 at Rev/kWh, Oregon at $6.5 Rev/kWh and California at $12.9 Rev/kWh. (U.S. Department of Energy Form EIA-861, 2006 data)

Water and Sewer

Water is supplied from surface water in the coast range and flows through a modern treatment plant on its way to McMinnville. The city's soft mountain water is excellent in taste and quality. McMinnville Water and Light has just completed the expansion of McGuire Reservoir, which will assure the city an adequate contamination-free supply for years to come.

The sanitary sewer system covers about 90 percent of the city, with a I29-mile pipe system utilizing I3 pumping stations for delivery to a water reclamation facility providing advanced treatment. The plant is equipped to handle city growth through the next decade.

Bonneville Power and Natural Gas

Electricity for McMinnville is furnished primarily by the hydro based system of the Bonneville Power Administration. Rates in McMinnville continue to be among the lowest in the country. Northwest Natural supplies natural gas to the community.

Refuse and Recycling

Western Oregon Waste (WOW) provides a wide range of residential, commercial and industrial waste and recycling services for McMinnville and most of Yamhill County. WOW is a private, locally-owned business that began operations in 1928. Through its innovative programs and community-wide cooperation, the county has recently been recognized for its high rate of recycling, which is among the highest in the state.

Internet Services

Internet services in McMinnville range from standard dial-up to broadband service delivered by wire, fiber, cable or wireless. Two locally-owned businesses provide broadband services: Valley Internet Company (T-1s and telecom), and Online Northwest (dial-up, DSL, T-1s, fiber and regional wireless service).
