Geography and Climate

McMinnville is tucked in the agriculturally rich Willamette Valley where vineyards line the rolling hills and hazelnut orchards spread across the valley floor.

WaterfallsA number of small rivers – Cozine Creek, Baker Creek, Yamhill River and more – flow through the community. A 45-minute drive in either direction will bring you to the bustling state capitol of Salem or metropolitan Portland. The Pacific Coast is an easy 50-mile drive from McMinnville through the scenic Van Duzer Forest. If you prefer the snow to surf, then head to Mt. Hood just 1 1/2 hours away. It boasts a year-round snow cap.

Hanging BasketSnow is rare in McMinnville's mild climate, however, where temperatures average 70 degrees (F) from June to September and 40 degrees (F) from November to February. The average rainfall of 42 inches affords a rich green landscape and an extended growing season of I74 days. Although the elevation is I57 feet above sea level, the city is protected from heavy westerly winds by the Coast Range, which rises to elevations of 3,000 feet.
